Music: Road Trip Time (again)

All this week I’m going to be traveling up and down the East coast, so I think I’ll post a “Some of My Favorite Road Trip Songs” list.  Good music is a traveling essential–more important than the food even.  I can handle a lousy breakfast sandwich, but lousy music?  The words “cruel” and “unusual” come to mind…

I chose these based upon the following criteria:  upbeat sound, feeling of “movement”, and sing-along-ability.  So, in no particular order:

  • “See No Evil” – Television
  • “54-46 Was My Number” – Toots & the Maytals
  • “Let it Bleed” – The Rolling Stones
  • “The Suburbs” –  Arcade Fire
  • “Hard Day’s Night” – The Beatles
  • “Bohemian Like You” – The Dandy Warhols
  • “Night Train” – Tab Benoit
  • “Light of Day” – Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
  • “Trenchtown Rockers” – Bob Marley & The Wailers (Live at The Roxy version)
  • “Lithium” – Nirvana
  • “Livin’ on a Prayer” – Bon Jovi
  • “Self Esteem” – The Offspring
  • “Southside” – Common feat. Kanye West
  • “1979” – Smashing Pumpkins
  • “Hungry Heart” – Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
  • “Wanted Dead or Alive” – Bon Jovi
  • “The Well & the Lighthouse” – Arcade Fire
  • “Instant Pleasure” – Rufus Wainwright
  • “Fozzy (Part 1)” – The Pietasters
  • “Let’s Get Out of Here” – Les Savy Fav
  • “Just What I Needed” – The Cars
  • “Today” – Smashing Pumpkins
  • “Rock Lobster” – The B-52’s
  • “Sister Jack” – Spoon
  • “C’mere” – Interpol

This is by no means exhaustive, and I’ve got other playlists by genre for traveling as well (e.g.–got a Rat Pack list, an Ella list, a Bruce list, an over-the-top hipster list…).  What is some of your favorite road music?
