Sherlock Holmes

My annual tribute to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle:  The Great Sherlock Holmes Endeavor!

Join me as I navigate my way through the myriad adaptations of Doyle’s beloved works.

Basil of Baker Street and Dr. Dawson solve a series of mysteries that lead to Basil’s greatest nemesis, Professor Ratigan!  Fun for all ages, seriously.

Some noteworthy adaptations make his body of work worth checking out, though in many cases the word “adaptation” is stretched to a breaking point.

The definitive period-piece Holmes.  No actor before or since has so embodied the character of Sherlock Holmes.  A must-see!

An interesting and slightly fast-paced modern adaptation, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Holmes and Watson.  Controversial yes, but very good.

Two fun action films with surprising depth.  Just make sure you know what you’re getting into.

Rupert Everett as a heavily medicated Holmes.

Christopher Plummer and James Mason in a very ’70s Jack the Ripper conspiracy film.

The Asylum produced a Holmes film.  I really should have known better.
